Secure Email is a service that allows you exchange email messages with your Financial Advisor advisor, the Branch Manager or the Help Desk. Is Secure Email safer than regular Internet email?

When you send regular email through the Internet, there is no encryption or security. By contrast, in order to view or send Secure Email messages, you must be logged on to the website with your User Name and Password. We use security and encryption to protect your private information. Secure Email is as secure as viewing your portfolio or placing a trade.

How will I know when I receive a message?

When you receive a new Secure Email message, a notice will be sent to the email address you registered with our site. For security reasons, this message will only contain the title of the message and a link back to smithbarney.com to read the actual message. You will also see new Secure Email on your custom homepage and as a link in your portfolio.

What messages do my Inbox and Outbox contain and how long will they be retained?

Your Email Inbox contains a history of messages sent to you by Secure Email. Messages are stored until they are read and retained for 90 days after they are opened. Your Email Outbox contains the history of messages you have sent using Secure Email. How do I attach a file?

To attach a file to Secure Email, please go to Secure Email and click Browse (next to Attachment) to choose the document you would like to send. Once the document name appears, click Add, type in your message and click Send. You can attach up to 5 MB (megabytes) of files for each message.

What file types can I attach and what are the size limits?

Secure Email supports attachments in Microsoft Word (.doc), Microsoft Excel (.xls), Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt), Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) or text (.txt) formats.

You can attach up to 5 MB (megabytes) of files for each message.

Is there anything that I should not send through Secure Email?

You should not use Secure Email or Internet email to give us any instructions pertaining to your account(s) or any linked accounts, including placing orders to purchase or sell a security or to transfer funds. Do not use email to send personal credit information (including credit card numbers), to request an address change, to confirm or change your User Name or Password, or to give your advisor any other time-sensitive instructions.
